Gerakarou (Greek: Γερακαρού) is a village and a community of the Langadas municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of Koroneia, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 1,223 inhabitants in the village. The community of Gerakarou covers an area of 17.847 km2.
Environmental value of region
The region has particular environmental value and for this reason is protected from a line of regulations from the E.E but the conventions Ramsar of - Barcelona - Bern of - Bonn and Natura 2000 in a common effort for the maintenance in a lot of species of birds, amphibious, suckling even reptiles.
Ljparia', Gelartza and Lakopsaro are only certain from the 24 species of fishes that have been recorded in the lakes Koronia and Volvi and are not met in no other part of world.
Cultural value of region
Apart from the environmental value of region important is also her cultural side and here decisive role has the majority of young persons.
It follows the deliveries, it learns traditional dances, it participates in the events that are organised by the cultural association, while certain of them learn traditionally musical bodies as pontiaki lyra (kementze) and drum (ntaouli).
